Four Christian County law enforcement officers were honored on Friday, May 29, at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion for exhibiting great bravery in the line of duty. On July 29, 2014, officers were dispatched to a residence on Bear Creek Road in rural Pana in response to a drug investigation and an attempt to locate a wanted person.
During the search of the residence, a concealed male subject opened fire from inside a closet, striking Pana Officer Adam Ladage twice, once in the ballistic vest, and the second round striking him in the left shoulder. Other law enforcement officers on scene were able to assist Officer Ladage to safety and secure a perimeter around the location; all the while being threatened by the presence of an armed subject.
Christian County Deputies James McWard and J. D. Pickett, along with Officer Ladage and Christian County Investigator Jeff Brown, were each bestowed the Illinois Governor’s Medal of Valor for their acts of bravery on that July 2014 day.
